Waterhouse exhibition at the Royal Academy - 29th August, 2009(I had poster reproductions of these when I was 17 - easy to dismiss as romantic wallpaper but Waterhouse drew strongly on the work of the Impressionists - the Lady of Shalott glides through a very real English riverscape. Waterhouse women are of "singular beauty both natural and unattainable ... the femme fatale is a constant presence in his work". No pressure then!
