New picture for the Ashmolean

On show at the Ashmolean - the Menorah by Robert Wagner (1994). The artist drew from an image viewed from the train from London to Oxford - the Didcot cooling towers. The way in which the towers are grouped reminded the artist of the Jewish Menorah; the chimney hints at the concentration camp, the sky and rising clouds of steam elements of beauty in a scene of utter desolation.
