Harry Potter Makes Magic at the Box Office.
Warner Brothers has a lot to be thankful for this weekend, as “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” opened to a record-breaking $125.1M. The latest installment in the Harry Potter franchise now ranks #5 among all-time three-day opening weekends. Last week’s champ “Megamind” took a 45% drop to finish a distant second with $16.1M, followed by “Unstoppable” with $13.1M and “Due Date” with $9.1M.
“The Next Three Days” opened with a disappointing $6.7M, despite star Russell Crowe’s major press blitz. The rest of the top ten is taken up by holdovers: “Morning Glory” ($5.2M), “Skyline” ($3M), “Red” ($2.5M), “For Colored Girls” ($1.8M) and “Fair Game” ($1.5M).
Fighting it out for box office supremacy over Thanksgiving weekend are Disney’s “Tangled,” “Burlesque” with Christina Aguilera and Cher, Jake Gyllenhaal-Anne Hathaway romcom “Love and Other Drugs,” and action thriller “Faster.”
