Looking for sloes we picked elderberries, tiny plums, apples, crab apples and damsons to turn into hedgerow jelly, all tossed in the pan, simmered, stained through a jelly bag and the liquid, with a 1lb of sugar added per pint of juice (none of this metric stuff) brought to a rolling boil and tested for setting - made about six pounds. Tucked away in the dark of the dresser cupboard.
