Dibakar Banerjee is an unhappy man, especially since his film Love, Sex aur Dhokha is scheduled for release this Friday and he just got the censor board certificate yesterday. The film is releasing with five cuts and a toned down sex scene. This impacts the overseas distribution as well, as usually the film makes it across the shores a week in advance.
Apparently, the censor board was not pleased with the director’s ‘bold’ theme and had asked for changes before clearing it. Objections were made to a few dialogues and Dibakar was asked to reduce the love-making scenes in the film before reapplying for the certificate. Dibakar made the requisite changes, including redubbing some of the ‘objectionable’ language in the film.
Vinayak Azad, Regional Officer of Censor Board, said, “Yes, we asked them for some language as well as some visual cuts. They had already blurred the sex scene and even changed the word from ‘nangi’ to ‘gandi’. They have reduced the sex scene to 15 seconds. Normally the certificate is issued two weeks before the film’s release but it got delayed because of the cuts.”
The actors refused to comment on the issue. Anshuman Jha, the lead actor of the film, said, “I think Dibakar is the right person to speak about this.” Amit Sial, who plays a journalist who carries out the sting operation in the film said, “I am an actor in the film and I have done my job. Apart from this, I can’t comment on anything further.”
Dibakar had no choice but to comply. He said, “Yes, they asked for a few cuts and we removed the mention of a particular caste. Apart from that, we have also reduced the sex scene in the film and it is only 15 seconds long.”
