My parinda, from Andheri's Lokhandwala Complex, points out as he shows me some pictures of the actor he slyly clicked before she stepped onto a floor at Mehboob Studios to shoot for her new film with Shahid Kapoor on Wednesday afternoon.

Director Kunal Kohli, it seems was waiting for her inside, on the sets, as she walked from her vanity van accompanied by ace make-up artist, Mickey Contractor. Suna hai, her character in the romcom is called Rukhsar, for her van was tagged thus.

Neither Shahid nor his bike or car were anywhere around to be seen, says my birdy, adding that perhaps he wasn't required to shoot with her on the first day itself. Wonder if it's a sign of good beginnings. Or shouldn't I ask?

This is probably the first time in film history that a mother-daughter duo will be making their debut together. Not in the same film though. Former model and life coach-cum-therapist, Nandinii Sen is excited.

There is reason for double celebration in this close-knit family. Nandinii’s gorgeous daughter, Tara Alisha, is all set to make her Tollywood debut. “I have signed a film opposite Naga Chaitanya and it is called '100 per cent Love'.

Tara is a Bengaluru girl who studied at Canadian International School, before heading to Chapman University in California to major in production design. But clearly life had other plans. “As part of my degree, I did courses in acting and writing. I dropped out of college two years later and returned to India. That’s when I discovered my true calling. I wanted to be an actor. I signed up with Kwan, a Mumbai-based company that recommended me for the role in the Telugu movie. I met the director Sukumar Sir in Hyderabad and he signed me.”

New Delhi, May 3 -- Actress Dia Mirza was Tuesday named the brand ambassador of Britain-based personal care products retailer The Body Shop.

This is the first time the brand has appointed anyone to promote their products in India.The 29-year-old actress looked fresh and resplendent in a flower-print tunic and the minimalistic make-up was in tune with the brand philosophy of looking good naturally.

"I have always said that I will endorse only those brands that I believe in. And The Body Shop is one such brand. I also believe that a brand just doesn't need a face but a voice as well to help in it's aim to meet expectations," said Dia at the event.

"And the way The Body Shops believes in using natural resources to enhance beauty, I also believe in using eco-friendly products. So the synergy is there," she added.

David Smith, Asia Pacific managing director, The Body Shop, feels this is the right time to create awareness about the brand, which is known for it's eco-friendly product range.

"India is one of the fastest growing markets for our group. To reach out to our new customers, we are adapting ourselves in every ethical way. This step will take the brand to the next level," Smith told IANS.

The company, a 100-percent subsidiary of French cosmetics giant L'Oreal, was introduced in India four years back and today they have around 65 stores in 25 cities.

The Body Shop also launched it's fairness range - Moisture White Shiso collection that comes in the price bracket of Rs.1,045 to Rs.2,695

To lure people, The Body Shop slashed prices by 20-30 percent and it helped them to make inroads into tier II and III cities.

"We wanted to make our products affordable and hence we decided to slash the prices to get people in smaller cities use our product line," said Shriti Malhotra, chief operating officer of The Body Shop.

"Now, we are depending on vernacular media to promote the products and also make sure that the city where we are unable to have a store, we retail through departmental chains and shop-in-shop," she added.

Malhotra admitted that social media helps brands directly interact with consumers.

"To be present on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter helps in interacting directly with the consumer and we are not only connected with the people in India, but from all parts of the world. Hence technology has helped a lot in many ways," she said.

Mumbai, April 7 -- Actor Neetu Chandra is all set to represent Maharashtra in an All Star Basketball Championship, which will be played at the national level. The actor, who has been playing the game since she was in school, has been sweating it out in a suburban ground to perfect her game for the upcoming tournament.

"I am very passionate about basketball. It's like meditation for me. It's an honour to be representing Maharashtra, a state that I made my home many years ago," says she.

Neetu, who claims that she can play for three hours at a stretch, is a huge fan of international basketball player Kobe Bryant. "When I'm not shooting, I practise for three to four days a week. Even when I get older, I will continue to play basketball. Once a sportsperson, always a sportsperson," she adds.

Opportunities knock

Last year, the actor had was present at the National Basketball Association as a chief guest and even played a celebrity match at the event. It was then that the director of NBA (US) operations in India, Troy Justice encouraged her to play as part of the team.

Not just that, on the sets of her horror film 13B (2009), she was reported to have bonded with co-star Madhavan over basketball as well.

"Most of my male co-stars love sports. Instead of hanging around and watching them play, I team up and join them. Since I'm good at it, they enjoy having me on their side." Neetu's first match will take place on April 9 at the Mastan court in Lower Parel.
